General Manager (Integrated Logistics)

Pasay City, Philippines

The aim is to lead an IL operations team in the Philippines who can develop a credible sales pipeline, as well as execute efficient & cost-effective operations, focused on providing a high level of customer service.

Under the guidance of the Vice President, the General Manager will be assigned tasks aimed at developing the Offshore Agency, Renewables and Project Logistics business across the Philippines.

Responsibilities:

  • Key Accountabilities
    • Enhance BLA’s reputation as a leading marine agency, integrated logistics and freight forwarding in the country and around the region.
    • Identify and develop long term relationships with key principals and customers.
    • Build a business that is profitable over the long term.
    • Improve operational and service efficiencies across the unit.
    • Close monitoring of accounts receivables.

  • Operational, Commercial and Safety Excellence (day-to-day IL Team Management)
    • Develop and implement clear operational plans in under the guidance of the Vice President that is anchored on safety and as guided by industry best practices.
    • Utilize personal experience and network to create competitive advantage and develop integrated logistics solutions that are anchored to safety and best industry practices.
    • Supervise ongoing projects paying close attention to customer requirements and pro-actively proposing solutions that enhances safety standards and quick turnaround.
    • Review and sign-off on tenders and bids for prospective and existing principals / customers ensuring proactive and highly efficient solutions are offered at all times.

  • Process Development / Improvement
    • Monitor operations team to ensure processes are completed efficiently and on a timely basis.
    • Ensure that robust standard operating procedures (SOPs) are developed and maintained.
    • Review and refine SOPs with key vendors / partners in coordination with the Vendor Management Officer to ensure that services rendered by the team meet BLA Group standards.
    • Develop managers and supervisors to improve process efficiency.

  • Issues Resolution
    • Carryout root cause analysis and corrective actions for any identified non-conformity.
    • Encourage sharing of ideas within the unit to come up with best possible solution to issues.
    • Monitor corrective actions for effectiveness to ensure issues do not recur.

  • Reporting
    • Report to the Vice President any identified issues that may have operational or financial implications to the IL business.
    • Ensure that all Principal and customers reporting requirements are met timely and accurately.
    • Prepare reports for the BLA Group that may be required by the Vice President.

  • Staff Matters
    • Recruit, train and retain unit managers and supervisors
    • Set and review performance targets for IL managers and supervisors
    • Assist in conducting competency gap analysis and propose appropriate interventions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics Management or equivalent.
  • Extensive operational and general management experience gained within the shipping/ project logistics industry.
  • Strong interpersonal and people-oriented management skills with experience of leading and motivating people.
  • Thorough understanding of HSEQ compliance (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality).
  • P&L management experience.
  • Proven ability to close deal and build the business.
  • Familiar in current computer programs used within the industry.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.
  • Skills in global logistics, freight forwarding and brokerage.
  • Proficient in standard logistics software.
  • Knowledgeable in PEZA and BOC procedures.
  • Proven working experience as Logistics Manager – yard management, route surveys, multi-modal transportation, provision of lifting equipment and port handling.

  • Extensive operational and general management experience gained within the shipping industry.
  • Strong interpersonal and people-oriented management skills with experience of leading and motivating people.
  • Thorough understanding of HSEQ compliance (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality).
  • Substantial experience of working closely with all regulatory bodies – harbor and local authorities, customs, suppliers).
  • P&L management experience.
  • Proven ability to close deal and build the business.
  • Familiar in current computer programs used within the industry.
  • Familiar with shipping agency’s functionality, especially agency business processes.
  • Understands port regulations, port health, terminal operations, Customs, and immigration procedures - local and international.
  • Worked as a Shipping Agency Manager – first person of contact for ships arriving into the port.
  • Handled – Full Agency, Husbandry, Bunker Call, Cruise Ships Agency
  • Worked for the ship’s interest when the ship is in port and carries out any arrangements required by the shipping lines, ship owners and ship masters.

Account Executive for Project Logistics

Pasay City, Philippines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/Business Studies/Administration/Management, Marketing or equivalent.
  • With at least 2 year(s) of working experience in the shipping logistics business or equivalent.

Job Description:

  • Solicit business in the form of bookings from target/existing customers.
  • Do research and telemarketing activities to secure appointments to visit new target accounts.
  • Regularly send sales pre-plans and sales call reports as scheduled.
  • Coordinate bookings with customer service and logistic teams.
  • Update customers with developments on service, trade, market conditions, rates, etc.
  • Keep breast of competition activites and industry developments.
  • Update files like the sales call monitoring spreadsheet.
  • Keep abreast of market conditions i.e. new service, competition, market rates and concessions, trade statistics, etc.
  • File necessary rate applications and updating of rates.
